Using Title, Meta Tags, Meta Description and URL structure

This covers both of the discovery and ranking purpose of the search engine. “NOARCHIVE” will restrict the engines from saving a cache copy of the page. Apart from these Meta tags, NOSNIPPET, NOODP, NOYDIR can be used in the web site as well.

MetaDescription: Using Meta Description in the web pages is very important now a day because of the intelligent search engine algorithm. This kind of description will provide the summery of the page content for the search engines. If there is no meta description then the engine’s robots will create the “search snippets” (summery of the page content) by it self. Meta description should be within 160 characters, but if it is more then that still it might be indexed by the search engines.

Meta Keywords: The Meta keyword tags of HTML used to be the base of search engine’s indexing algorithm. Even few years ago whenever an user has looked for a particular key words, search engines did index the content of the site based on the meta key words of the page. Search Engines are updating their searching algorithm and there is no or very limited value on using Meta key words.

Best practice for URL construction: Keyword rich URL can be a big step for search engine optimization. The URL should be short and it should be easy to copy and paste. Developer should use the pre decided short keywords in the URL to help the users as well as the search engines to navigate the content of the site. Instead of using the dynamic URL, the best practice is to use the static URL which can be easy for the user to remember as well. Some of the web applications can not interprate all the separators like “_”, “space or %20”, “Plus or +” . Best practice is to use the hyphen “-“ as separator in the URL to use the key words.
